Witness and Mission Committee News

Missionaries

As you walk through the hall to Friendship Hall, glance at the wall on your left. There you’ll find the lovely hand painted cross from Peru missionary Jed Koball presented to St. Andrew when he visited in April. Continue to keep updated on Jed’s ministry through his website, Rev. Jed and Jenny Koball or read and sign up for his most recent e-newsletter by clicking here. You can also email Jed at jedhawkes@gmail.com.

Committee Update

For many years, St. Andrew has worked with other area churches to provide volunteers at the Williamsport food bank on a six-week rotation through the year, on Monday or Thursday mornings. Witness Committee member Vivian Suffecool is now the food bank coordinator who will schedule helpers. If interested in this ministry, please contact Vivian. If you’ve worked at the food bank before, Vivian may be calling you!

During the school year, we will continue to provide weekend meals for 15 needy students through the Micah’s Backpack program. The meals must follow specific guidelines to help students remain healthy and strong so they can do better in school. Through these backpacks, the students and their families know of God’s love and care for them. We could not do this without the help provided through your offerings. Thank you on behalf of the students.

Students who are now in a routine at school are encouraged to seek out their school’s Fellowship of Christian Athlete group. Zach Morgan is the local FCA coordinator who would love to meet you. FCA is a great way to make friends with other Christians outside of church. You may contact Zach at zmorgan@fca.org

Jed Koball and his wife Jenny are kept busy as missionaries in Peru. Excerpts from their August newsletter, which is posted on the bulletin board, discusses these topics:

• Protect Health in La Oroya!
• YAVs Transition from a Year of Service to a Lifetime of Change
• Presbyterians Travel to Peru for Reflection and Action
• Creating Art and Leaders through Fair Trade
• Extracting Life: Mining and Its Lasting Impressions
