Helping Hands

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a twice-monthly event. Annette Sandell, Director of Christian Education, provides the materials and activities for items needed for Sunday School classes, church, and other seasonal events. These photos show the volunteers who are preparing the curriculum, folding bulletins, painting flower pots for teachers, and taking down the “winter” trees. Participants bring a sandwich, enjoy the provided side dishes as they enjoy lunch and fellowship while providing these much-needed services.  Anyone is welcome to come to Helping Hands. Dates and times are listed on the church calendar.

April Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As we make our way through the season of Lent, some have asked if I would discuss how to view and read scripture.  In the next few columns, we will be looking at how to read the Bible effectively.

Two months ago, we looked at some of the basics of the Bible and how to see the Bible in a larger fashion.

March 1st – Book Club

The evening book club met on Tuesday, March 1st.  The group read and discussed Travels with George, by Nathaniel Philbrick.

Daytime Book Club 12.20.21

The Daytime Book Club read The Christmas Pearl by Dorthea Benton Frank.

With her truculent family gathered at her stately Charleston mansion for Christmas, 93-year-old matriarch Theodora is having a hard time tolerating the lot of them. Theodora hankers for her 1920s childhood, when Pearl, the family’s stern black maid, enforced strict houshold discipline and took no guff while working hard at Christmas, all the while singing gospel favorites such as Come en Go wid Me. When Theodora’s usual maid is called away, Pearl herself (as a ghost) blows in, ready to set the house in order, She unearths the antique cr?che and other Christmas heirlooms long buried, and altering the family’s general bad temper. Frank (The Land of Mango Sunsets) includes homegrown recipes that further sweeten this Lowcountry holiday confection.

Christmas Eve Services

There will be two Christmas Even services this year.  They will be at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.  Each will feature the lighting of candles, special music, communion, and a Christmas message.

Living Nativity

Our Living Nativity was presented on December 18 and 19th.  This was the retelling of the greatest birth of all time, the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
